David is the principal of Oben Law and a director of Oben Regulatory Ltd. He is a Jersey Advocate with over 25 years’ experience of litigating in Jersey, prior to which he practised as an English Solicitor with a leading City of London firm.

David’s expertise includes trust and funds disputes, fraud, asset tracing and recovery, regulatory investigations, insolvency, trustee applications, AML/CFT, sanctions and bribery/corruption issues, professional negligence and partnership and shareholder disputes.

David is regularly instructed by global financial institutions as well as Jersey-based financial services businesses and international law and accountancy firms. He acts for the Viscount (the officer of the Royal Court responsible for administering bankruptcies), has acted as an appointed inspector for the Jersey Financial Services Commission and acts for a number of high-net-worth individuals in a broad variety of complex disputes.

David has acted in some of the leading Jersey cases, for example, on trust issues leading to judgments such as In re the A Trust, which changed Jersey law on setting aside a trust, and In re the Representation of Lloyds TSB Offshore Trust Company Limited, which settled Jersey law on proprietary claims to trust assets.

David co-chairs ARIES’ Legal & Regulatory Committee.
